Masquerading as a dragon

The Dragon Masquerade came out last week, and I want to thank everyone who read it! I had fun visiting with Aleksander and Rafe, and although it was supposed to center exclusively around them, it was awesome to hear from voices I haven’t been able to work into previous novels. As for our High Kings, I can never resist them and hope they come back for many more stories. I will always need more Rafe and Aleksander! I talked a lot about short stories and my issues with them in my last blog, so I won’t bore you with it all again. I have one more short story written, and it’s my first one that is centered on two mates finding each other, which will be out much later this year.

My brain likes to complicate things in such a way that it’s difficult for me to narrow my focus and craft smaller projects. I’m also a fast reader and have always been drawn to longer books. I just hate for a good story to end! That being said, I’m really a minion to these guys and I let them get away with whatever they want so what the future holds in that regard is a mystery. I’m continuously grateful that they keep talking and new guys show up with their mates in tow. However, I’m doing whatever I can to convince some of the older characters who’ve been hanging around to get themselves together so they can have their happily ever after. Wish me luck, I’d love to write their stories!

This year I’ve wrapped up two books with existing characters and although the one I’m currently working on features a person who has had a cameo in the series, it’s so tiny you’d blink and miss it. But they were persistent, so they moved up to the front of the line. I have no idea who is next, but I’d like to finish this novel before some jerk decides to take over the spotlight.

My ongoing pursuit of putting my backlist into print is still underway. Irresistible Indigo should be ready to go very soon, I’m just waiting on the pretty paperback wrap from my incredible cover artist, LJ Anderson. After that, we’ll be down to just two left and I’m still on track to meet my end of summer deadline.

On a personal note, I had my second vaccine shot yesterday and I’m glad to finally see hope on the horizon. It’s been a trying time for all of us, and although we aren’t out of the woods yet, we’re getting so much closer. My best friend is traveling to see my husband and I and we haven’t seen him since before this all started so although it’s going to be a low-key couple of days catching up in the comfort of home, I’m looking forward to every minute.

So, what’s next for D’Vaire? As I’ve mentioned, I wrote my first MMM last year. That’s the next book up for the series. I know it’s not for everyone. I’m certainly picky about MMMs myself. I can totally understand if you decide to skip it. If you’re on the fence, I can tell you that for me a MMM has to be devoid of jealousy or what I’d consider cheating, so I was vigilant about that when writing it. If you pass on it, I’m sure you’ll get caught on the series rather quickly. If you’re in my readers' group (and I certainly hope you are!) we have a discussion and spoiler thread for each novel, you can always catch up on any current events you’ll miss after it’s released.

Who are the three guys? Well, two of them are new to the series, but they are magickind of a race that has been oft-mentioned but never featured in a book. Their mate is a shifter who has made cameos in several D’Vaire books, mostly in the Main Assembly Hall. From that hint, you may have guessed that he’s also a leader. His first appearance was in Resurrection of the Fallen. No one in his family has starred in a book yet either, so it’s a new household for the series too. It will be released in June, and it’s hard to believe we’re so close to summer. I’m eager to see your guesses as to who he might be and what kind of magickind his mates are!

Catching up!

It’s been six months since I wrote a blog post. I didn’t intend to stop writing them for so long, but life got in the way. Between struggles with a lack of creativity and some minor medical issues, I’m trying to work my way back to writing daily. But I did finally finish a book!  At the start of the year, I was burned out and wasn’t sure how to get my guys to talk to me again. I’ve mentioned before that I have OCD. I also struggle with depression. This year my doctor and I decided medication was a necessity. It has helped. So has balancing out my other health struggles and my ever-changing role as a spouse to someone with primary progressive multiple sclerosis and Sjogren’s syndrome.  This time of year, I always try to send my editor my dates for the following year. I decided to commit myself to fewer releases in 2024. I’m going to put out five novels and a short story. The biggest change is that they won’t all be D’Vaire books. To find some inspiration, I had to take a huge step back

This one is a bit short...

Five weeks ago, I sprained my finger and unfortunately, the tears in my collateral ligaments are still healing. I’m back at the orthopedist at the end of the month to check on it and with some luck, I’ll get to stop wearing the straps anchoring it soon. As you can imagine, it’s limiting my time on the computer. But I'm squeezing in as much writing and editing as I can. It was great to finally return to the D’Vaire household with Scales and Stone, and we’ll be there again for the next edition to the series, which is a holiday story. In my Facebook group, I’ll reveal the first hint about what to expect from the D’Vaires and their loved ones tomorrow morning. Although I’d hoped to be finished with a book by now, I’m still plugging away at it. The characters are being patient with me, which I appreciate. Like Scales and Stone, it takes place at the D’Vaire mansion, and it’s been fun to hang out with some of my favorite people. At this point, I’m still paranoid about whether these

Twists and turns

Shadowy Illusions was a fun, but emotional project, and I'm thrilled that Amaury was so insistent on telling his story. He definitely deserves a happily ever after, and so do his mates. After spending a few months hanging out with the Gennevioses, I enjoyed them, but I was ready to move on.  I’ve spoken several times now in my Facebook group about how many of the books this year contain characters that came into my head long before the D’Vaire series planted its roots in my brain. I'm not sure why they chose now to demand things, but I was happy to oblige. The next book is the last of those…at least for now, because I have a ton of old stories, and I certainly can’t predict who is going to jump in and request a story next.  Unlike Matebond Dance and Deliciously Enchanted , where the stories paralleled their original tales, the couple coming next barely resemble their foundational characters. Their story has edged its way near the top of the list of books I love most. It featur
