It's great to be home.

The husband and I flew to Washington, DC for a long weekend and we had a wonderful trip. My niece and her family spent most of that time with us, and we’d gone entirely too long without seeing each other. On Sunday night, we had the awesome opportunity to attend an Iron Maiden concert and one of my favorite bands, Within Temptation, opened for them. While we had a fantastic time on our trip, sleep was not high on our priority list, so it’s going to take me a few days to get caught up.

Beauty and Valor was released about twelve hours or so before I boarded my plane, and I really hope everyone enjoyed Preston and Ridgely’s story. Preston is an old character, and many details about where he came from and what race he belonged to changed, but the core of who he was never differed.

He went through a few mates before I found the right one, and Ridgely was the perfect fit. Halfway through Gargoyle Birthright, that pair was distracting me, and there was no question that their book was ready to be written. It was a book that offered me few frustrations and I couldn’t wait to read it once it was complete.

Preston and Ridgely weren’t the only couple that were trying to steal the spotlight from Jordan and Hunter in Gargoyle Birthright. Another pair were making themselves known, and as I neared the completion of Beauty and Valor, the details of the next story emerged in crisp detail. For many years, I knew everything about one character, but his mate was often a shrouded mystery. I was ecstatic that he was finally telling me everything about himself.

Tomorrow in my readers’ group I’ll give the first picture hint for D’Vaire #33 (which is the final release for 2022), but I can give you a few hints now. One of the guys is well known to you, belongs to an important D’Vaire family, and is undead. The other has been mentioned in the books but has never had an actual appearance.

So, what am I working on? Well, the day before I left for DC, I finished the 39th D’Vaire book. The story swelled to over one hundred thousand words, and it was a story that surprised right up until the last few chapters. It was also incredibly emotional, and the two characters were difficult to let go of at the end.

According to my schedule, I’m supposed to be starting a new novel in a few days. That's unlikely to happen because I have no new couples jumping up to take the spotlight. The timing is unfortunate. My plan was to write this book and, apart from writing a short story, take the rest of the year off. Instead, it looks like I’ll be pulling together the short story and hoping some lovely couple springs into my head.

I’m trying not to get too frustrated, but I need all these guys waiting for stories to get their acts together. I’d like to start next year with a clean slate, and a few weeks without writing will enable me to recharge my batteries. The most irritating thing is that I’ve had a couple of guys that I’d really love to write about dangle a few carrots of information or hints about their books, then scurry off into the darkness. Here’s hoping my muses cooperate soon!

This one is a bit short...

Five weeks ago, I sprained my finger and unfortunately, the tears in my collateral ligaments are still healing. I’m back at the orthopedist at the end of the month to check on it and with some luck, I’ll get to stop wearing the straps anchoring it soon. As you can imagine, it’s limiting my time on the computer. But I'm squeezing in as much writing and editing as I can. It was great to finally return to the D’Vaire household with Scales and Stone, and we’ll be there again for the next edition to the series, which is a holiday story. In my Facebook group, I’ll reveal the first hint about what to expect from the D’Vaires and their loved ones tomorrow morning. Although I’d hoped to be finished with a book by now, I’m still plugging away at it. The characters are being patient with me, which I appreciate. Like Scales and Stone, it takes place at the D’Vaire mansion, and it’s been fun to hang out with some of my favorite people. At this point, I’m still paranoid about whether these...

The series returns to the D'Vaire mansion soon!

Caution: If you haven't read Blaze of Eternity yet, there are spoilers ahead! Resurrection of the Fallen was a book that, despite its length, I completed in less than three weeks. As fast as Conley drives, it’s not much of a surprise that he had to make sure his story was told swiftly. I worked from morning until night, and that book remains one of my favorite stories. The only slow day was the day I had to write the death scene. It took me a few hours to brace myself to write it, but it was otherwise a wonderful experience. One thing I love is the format, but I didn’t want to replicate unless the right project demanded it. While historical romances are something I adore and getting to play in around in the past is always fun for me, I figured Resurrection would be completely unique in that way. I know some readers don’t enjoy reading the historical content, but I started this series for me, and I will continue to write characters and stories that move me and make me want to read...

Twists and turns

Shadowy Illusions was a fun, but emotional project, and I'm thrilled that Amaury was so insistent on telling his story. He definitely deserves a happily ever after, and so do his mates. After spending a few months hanging out with the Gennevioses, I enjoyed them, but I was ready to move on.  I’ve spoken several times now in my Facebook group about how many of the books this year contain characters that came into my head long before the D’Vaire series planted its roots in my brain. I'm not sure why they chose now to demand things, but I was happy to oblige. The next book is the last of those…at least for now, because I have a ton of old stories, and I certainly can’t predict who is going to jump in and request a story next.  Unlike Matebond Dance and Deliciously Enchanted , where the stories paralleled their original tales, the couple coming next barely resemble their foundational characters. Their story has edged its way near the top of the list of books I love most. It featu...
