The Imperian and D'Vaire in 2022

If you’ve read Soul of the Imperian, you’ve probably realized by now that its story is incomplete without Demonically Daray. Which is why despite the difficulties I had with crafting Hexaniys and Eduard’s story, I couldn’t leave it out of the series though I did consider it. But then again, I have contemplated keeping many of the stories far from the public eye—such is the nature of my scared little heart not wanting to put my guys out in the world to be judged. As I mentioned in my last blog post, Eduard and Hexaniys once had a complicated plot, but it fell apart as things developed in other books.

I wanted more than to mention it as a footnote in Paszra’s book that Eduard had met his mate, so I developed essentially a prologue to the Imperian’s story and gave the Skeleton Lord his happily ever after. It wasn’t something I was completely happy with, but I had to contend with the characters and what they wanted.

It was probably unsatisfying to read about Hexaniys’s lack of magic, but I never intended to allow the demons to go without it forever. But whether they liked it or not, they needed Paszra to recover it for them. Like many of the pillars of the D’Vaire series, Paszra is a character who predated the first book. Long before I ever sat down to write about Chander, I knew he was half-imp.

After leaving Chander to wonder so long, it was nice to finally hand that piece of his history back to him. Hopefully, those demons will also get to work discovering the extent of their sorcery and unlocking more spells. I’m sure neither Hexaniys nor Sashati will be content until they learn everything about themselves and I wish them the best because we already know Paszra won’t be holding anyone’s hand and guiding them along.

As you can imagine, it is not the last you will hear of the Imperian. No man that powerful can fade into the background and even in my current book, he’s diving into the fray to offer a little help. I rarely discuss what book I’m writing. You can blame Renny for that one since he’s left me paranoid that the story will collapse in the middle and I’ll have to retreat until I can find my characters again. But I will confess that I love the story and the two guys taking center stage right now.

I will introduce one of them to you in a few books—well, you’ll at least hear his name perhaps—while the other has been hanging around the series for a long time. I’ve wanted to write about him forever, but he isn’t someone who is comfortable in the limelight. Maybe that’s something he should work on. I’m not really sure the length of this one, so it’s hard to estimate how complete it is. This is proving to be an interesting experience and I have a feeling it’ll be a long book since it's already 80k and there is loads more left on my outline. (Not Heart of the High King long, but over 100k).

So, let’s talk next year! I have seven full-length novels to share with you. I already wrote six of them and I’m working on the seventh. The first one will be out in the beginning of February and it’s another old character who eluded me for far too long. You will see plenty of new faces in the series in 2022 and even a new race or two joining the Council and maybe the growth of some existing ones. At least one new family will also be established in the extended D’Vaire clan, which is always fun for me.

But that doesn’t mean I’ve completely forgotten about the ever-growing list of guys still waiting around. My mission for the 2023 projects that I’ll begin in January (or February depending on how long this current book takes) is to focus on gathering up some of these lonely guys and giving them their happily ever afters. Some of them have mates already floating around, while others will require some matchmaking. I have a shortlist of guys who are priority, but that doesn’t mean I can force their cooperation.

I have an idea floating around in my brain that I’m growing to like which would be something totally different in the series (which I love doing) that'll require me to find a couple we haven’t met, but I won’t let myself go in that direction just yet. Not until I can complete the stories of at least four or five jerks who’ve kept us waiting too long already.

Okay, so now you have the plan for 2022, so let’s focus on that next book slated for release in February. As I mentioned, one half of the couple is no stranger to the series, while the other definitely is. The first man’s race was first mentioned in Dra’Kaedan’s Coven and several more of his kind have found their mates in the series.

He’s an older gentleman, but a long sleep kept him from experiencing much of his life. His other half is someone he knows already, though his name has never been mentioned. His mate technically belongs to a race not yet seen but may have been some speculation in a book or two - as you'll soon discover it's a bit complicated. Hopefully, that gives you a few clues to help you figure out who might be featured. In my reader’s group, Jessamyn’s Ruffians, I’ll give a sneak peek of the blurb tomorrow.

It is my fondest wish to keep bringing you stories and I couldn’t do any of this without you! Thank you so much for sticking with me and the D’Vaires through 2021. I can’t wait to share 2022 and the new stories in the D’Vaire universe with you!

This one is a bit short...

Five weeks ago, I sprained my finger and unfortunately, the tears in my collateral ligaments are still healing. I’m back at the orthopedist at the end of the month to check on it and with some luck, I’ll get to stop wearing the straps anchoring it soon. As you can imagine, it’s limiting my time on the computer. But I'm squeezing in as much writing and editing as I can. It was great to finally return to the D’Vaire household with Scales and Stone, and we’ll be there again for the next edition to the series, which is a holiday story. In my Facebook group, I’ll reveal the first hint about what to expect from the D’Vaires and their loved ones tomorrow morning. Although I’d hoped to be finished with a book by now, I’m still plugging away at it. The characters are being patient with me, which I appreciate. Like Scales and Stone, it takes place at the D’Vaire mansion, and it’s been fun to hang out with some of my favorite people. At this point, I’m still paranoid about whether these

Catching up!

It’s been six months since I wrote a blog post. I didn’t intend to stop writing them for so long, but life got in the way. Between struggles with a lack of creativity and some minor medical issues, I’m trying to work my way back to writing daily. But I did finally finish a book!  At the start of the year, I was burned out and wasn’t sure how to get my guys to talk to me again. I’ve mentioned before that I have OCD. I also struggle with depression. This year my doctor and I decided medication was a necessity. It has helped. So has balancing out my other health struggles and my ever-changing role as a spouse to someone with primary progressive multiple sclerosis and Sjogren’s syndrome.  This time of year, I always try to send my editor my dates for the following year. I decided to commit myself to fewer releases in 2024. I’m going to put out five novels and a short story. The biggest change is that they won’t all be D’Vaire books. To find some inspiration, I had to take a huge step back

Twists and turns

Shadowy Illusions was a fun, but emotional project, and I'm thrilled that Amaury was so insistent on telling his story. He definitely deserves a happily ever after, and so do his mates. After spending a few months hanging out with the Gennevioses, I enjoyed them, but I was ready to move on.  I’ve spoken several times now in my Facebook group about how many of the books this year contain characters that came into my head long before the D’Vaire series planted its roots in my brain. I'm not sure why they chose now to demand things, but I was happy to oblige. The next book is the last of those…at least for now, because I have a ton of old stories, and I certainly can’t predict who is going to jump in and request a story next.  Unlike Matebond Dance and Deliciously Enchanted , where the stories paralleled their original tales, the couple coming next barely resemble their foundational characters. Their story has edged its way near the top of the list of books I love most. It featur
