Catching up!

It’s been six months since I wrote a blog post. I didn’t intend to stop writing them for so long, but life got in the way. Between struggles with a lack of creativity and some minor medical issues, I’m trying to work my way back to writing daily. But I did finally finish a book!

At the start of the year, I was burned out and wasn’t sure how to get my guys to talk to me again. I’ve mentioned before that I have OCD. I also struggle with depression. This year my doctor and I decided medication was a necessity. It has helped. So has balancing out my other health struggles and my ever-changing role as a spouse to someone with primary progressive multiple sclerosis and Sjogren’s syndrome.

This time of year, I always try to send my editor my dates for the following year. I decided to commit myself to fewer releases in 2024. I’m going to put out five novels and a short story. The biggest change is that they won’t all be D’Vaire books. To find some inspiration, I had to take a huge step back from everything I’ve done in the past decade.

I needed a project that didn’t require weeks of D’Vaire research. One without the pressure of writing certain characters and ensuring I'm living up to your understandable expectations for guys you’ve grown to adore. I wasn’t even sure I’d finish this book. I started without an outline, and I had no ending. It was just something to do while I waited for a D’Vaire couple to hop into my head. But, as I wrote, I grew further and further attached to the people in it.

Although the book I completed lacks a title, it is the start of a new paranormal romance series. It’s a far different world than D’Vaire. However, it does feature a necromancer because I just can’t stay away from them or dead guys. I hope you’ll give this new series a try and grow to love it as I do.

My next project is also different, but it features some of our favorite D’Vaires. Only this time, there have been some twists in the timeline. I’m still working on figuring out how everyone fits in, but all our favorites will be around. I don’t have plans to rewrite all the couples. Some of them have way better journeys and there is little to tell.

I’ll get more into who will be featured as I complete books. I thought Dra’Kaedan and Brogan would be first just like the original series, but the timeline has worked out otherwise.

Because my first two projects of the year aren’t related to the actual D’Vaire series, I’m not sure the order I’m going to publish everything yet. I’d like to ensure that you get plenty of the timeline you’re used to between these new series.

But more on that later this year. Let’s get to the D’Vaire series and what the immediate future holds for you. As I’ve mentioned, Henry and Seristyn’s story was a long time coming, and I'm so pleased with the way it turned out. There is one more story this year that pre-dates the D’Vaire series, but it’s not next on the list.

Our next book is a triple matebond. I wasn’t sure if I’d write another one of those, but as you know, my guys don’t give me choices. This one features three people you’ve met. Some of their appearances have been very brief, but I could at least check a few single guys off my lengthy list of people waiting for books. One is a dead guy. Another is an elf. And the third is a sorcerer.

None of them live at the D’Vaire mansion, but I promise we’ll get back to Rafe and Aleksander’s nutty household before the year is out. In fact, we have a book and a short story coming out later this year at their big ass house. I know there are people you really want to see mated, and they’re on my list too. It’d be a real treat for me to offer you some of their stories in 2024, so cross your fingers they freaking cooperate!

This one is a bit short...

Five weeks ago, I sprained my finger and unfortunately, the tears in my collateral ligaments are still healing. I’m back at the orthopedist at the end of the month to check on it and with some luck, I’ll get to stop wearing the straps anchoring it soon. As you can imagine, it’s limiting my time on the computer. But I'm squeezing in as much writing and editing as I can. It was great to finally return to the D’Vaire household with Scales and Stone, and we’ll be there again for the next edition to the series, which is a holiday story. In my Facebook group, I’ll reveal the first hint about what to expect from the D’Vaires and their loved ones tomorrow morning. Although I’d hoped to be finished with a book by now, I’m still plugging away at it. The characters are being patient with me, which I appreciate. Like Scales and Stone, it takes place at the D’Vaire mansion, and it’s been fun to hang out with some of my favorite people. At this point, I’m still paranoid about whether these...

Schereding in a new warlock book

Scheredin’s story wasn’t one I ever thought would come to fruition. As I created the D’Vaire universe, I put Noirin and Scheredin in there because they’re a vital part of my life and it was fun to add my gaming personas into my fantasy world. However, while Noirin’s path was chartered quickly thanks to Rafe and how his romance with Aleksander worked out, Scheredin didn’t cooperate in the slightest. His personality emerged as I poked and prodded at him, and he was full of surprises. I tried to pair him with multiple partners, and although I was pretty sure about his magic, I wasn’t positive he wanted to be a dark warlock until I wrote The Dragon Masquerade . But from the start I wanted Scheredin’s partner to have something to do with his gaming. For me, that was a neat way to honor the true Scheredin who exists virtually. Thankfully, Scheredin and Kieran liked the idea too, and when they were ready, the details spilled out in a rush. Their book wound up being one of those that was relat...

Two elves, a centaur, and an enviable collection of toys...

Unpredictable Fate was an interesting journey. When I started Disregarding Fate , I had an idea of what Evlithar’s life was like and why he made the decisions that he did. Evlithar wasn’t perfect and he wasn’t always right, but when I neared the end, I found myself altering aspects I thought long ago decided. The birth of Kalthekor’s child sent him reeling and he changed drastically. By the time I completed Evlithar and Cadlyr’s journey I was feeling rather sorry for Kalthekor. But I set it aside. He had a mate and unfortunately, she did not make him happy. When we got to the editing stage of Disregarding Fate , Hope (one of my editors) mentioned how bad she felt for him too and was there something that could be done to help him. Although I could understand and appreciate her point of view, Fate’s choice had been made. I moved on but it festered in my brain. Out of nowhere a centaur charged in and nothing would ever be the same. I grew excited about the idea of giving Kalthe...
